From 17 to 28th September 2004, Greece will host the 12th Summer Paralympic Games. During this period, Athens expects 4000 athletes from more than 140 countries, who are going to take part in 19 sports. In the Paralympic Games as in the Olympic Games, the security issue is assigned by the State to the Ministry of Public Order, especially to the Hellenic Police, which is demanded to provide an environment of absolute security. The Olympic Games Security Division (O.G.S.D.), the special Section founded in order to meet this particular need, provides special training seminars to the security personnel during the Paralympic Games. The training aims at: - Informing-familiarizing the personnel with the Paralympic Games and their special character.
- Focusing on issues related directly to the Paralympic Games and on the attitude the personnel should adopt towards disabled persons.
- Focusing on the special character of the access control to which are subject the disabled persons, especially the athletes with disabilities.
Within the framework of the training seminars, printed syllabus is handed to the Games security personnel. This happens for the first time in the history of the Paralympic Games (edited, revised and printed by the Olympic Games Security Division). |
